Happy Graduation!
What a beautiful day to celebrate our graduates and send them off to Kindergarten. Friday's festivities included poetry, a reading of All the World from the Preschool class and performances by the graduates. After receiving their diplomas, there was plenty of time to run, play and enjoy a little homemade ice cream. We want to thank all of you who came out to enjoy the afternoon; it was incredible to see so many members of the MVS community out to support these kids. Congrats, we will truly miss you when you're gone!

Classroom Happenings
Infant I: We welcomed another student this week, and overall our room has been a place of transition as we go from being an older group to a younger one. Our main focus has been trying to figure out schedules that work best for all of the children in the room. We will be changing our notebook format going forward. Once children are at the point where they are eating solid foods twice daily, we will use the classroom whiteboard to note daily feedings, diapers, and notes. The notebooks will be specifically used to record snapshots of the week, special moments, developmental milestones and overall progress. Parents, please provide a notebook for your child. Thank you!
Infant II: This week we were very excited about the gorgeous weather!! Time outside in the morning was wonderful and we even had a lively chipmunk visit us several times. The children were happy to watch it's movements wanted to be near it and try to talk with it. The afternoons were equally delightful, as we were eager to get out and play with and in the water. We put our bathing suits on as soon as we woke up from our naps and headed outside. We spent long periods of play time collecting water in containers and cups and moving it around the playground. We enjoyed splashing the water and wading around in it. Water play is one of our favorite activities! On the literary front, our interest in all things books continues. As the children's language develops daily so does the interest in reading, books and words. This is a prime time developmentally regarding language, so we are nurturing that though reading, conversation and exposure to new words.
Toddler I: We focused our efforts of a multi-day project for Father's Day. We prepped and decorated containers, then mixed our soil with some "Moo Mix" before planting and covering the seeds. It was great to have this project span several days as the children could see the different parts coming together for an end result. There has been an interest in photographs of animals and looking at lifelike and technical illustrations. We continue to study the photos of animals with high interest. Our imaginative play this week has taken the form of princesses. There is one area in particular where this play has been taking place, near the stumps across from the staircase. Some of the younger children have been observing the play among the older children and have now started their own story lines. We are working on a sheet for the fridge to document the variety of snacks we are eating for our group snack times, this way families can see and talk about what we are eating at school.
Preschool: A short but busy week for us, as we earnestly prepared for the graduation festivities on Friday. We rehearsed All the World and helped Sarah craft many of the decorations. We had smaller groups of children this week, so we enjoyed some relaxed time in the classroom together. Outdoors, a big highlight was the construction of a river that cascaded down the back hill. The children rushed to collect and distribute the water, dam it up in places and make flowing tributaries in others. Sarah was out of the classroom on Thursday, so Paige joined us for the day. On Friday we had a delicious fruit salad, and what seems to be our Friday afternoon tradition of watermelon slices.
Pre-K: Time flies doesn't it? Phew! What a fast few days! We've done a lot of splitting into two groups again this week. We've been allowing the children to chose on some days which group they go with for the morning, and on other days splitting up based more on our ages, or even interest level in certain activities. This has allowed us to better match the pace of the children and the smaller groups help ease social conflict. The "K" children worked hard this week to prepare for graduation, both in crafting their flower crowns and in practicing for their performance. Around school we've been observing just how quickly many of our plants have grown. And, how the water and sun (or lack thereof) impacts the plants. We have also begun discussions about pollen and pollination.
