Happy Valentine's Day

I have a little red heart, red heart, red heart.
I have a little red heart,
that I will give to you.

Thank you so much to the Parent Collaboration Committee for getting pizza and salad for all of the teachers today. It was such a kind, thoughtful, and delicious treat for all of us. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

There was lots of love at MVS today, we just had to share.

And they're off...

I know Graduation officially happened in June but Friday marked a special day. It was the last day for several of our children that will be heading to kindergarten on Monday. These children have been an important part of the community of Mountain Village School for many years. They have helped to shape and mold our school into what it is today. Their interests, ideas, movements, interactions, conversations, and presence has had a big impact on what we have done with our time, where we have gone, what we have chosen to build and create. I want to thank all of those children for being a part of our school and our community. News and Reminders Mark your calendars: The PCC is planning a playdate with fire safety information for the morning of Saturday, September 15. More details coming soon. Kitchen Update This week the children tried carrot "noodles" which were happily slurped up in all class...

Insect Hotel

A schoolwide project that we've been thinking about for a while is building an insect hotel. Insect hotels provide a hibernation space for insects during the winter as well as nesting space during the summer. They support ecological diversity and also act as indirect exterminators as the insects who take up residence will destroy pests such as mites. As a school, we have always found that children are fascinated by insects of all kinds, so we think this could be a great catalyst for learning. We foresee many conversations about the role insects play in our ecosystem, how they adapt to the changing seasons, connections to books and scientific tools, and our responsibilities as stewards of the environment. An ecologically-beneficial learning opportunity–sounds like an MVS win-win!  (source:  https://www.installitdirect.com/blog/diy-bug-hotels-as-homes-for-beneficial-garden-insects/ ) We plan to build ours in the grassy side yard, using stacked wooden pallets as the main s...

January Happenings

Closed for MLK Day A reminder that we are closed this Monday the 18th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday when we reopen.  Classroom Happenings Infant I: All of the children are adding new challenges to their day. What does that look like? For instance, one of the babies who just started to walk, is now trying to carry objects while walking. Another child who has been holding toys is now starting to shake and manipulate them. Social interactions are still flourishing with babies mimicking each other, waving, clapping, and saying "hi" and "bye." Additionally some of the older children are using sign language to communicate with teachers at mealtimes. Starting on Monday we will transition from using the paper daily sheets to a white board; it will contain all of the same info regarding your child's day. And, last but not least, we welcomed a new student this week! Infant II:  We had another great week in Infant II. Despit...
